The Worship Service (11:00)
It is common in Christian circles to assume that the gospel is something just for non-Christians. We think the gospel is a set of truths that Christians advance beyond once they are converted. In the Letter to the Galatians, Paul shows this is not true. He addresses the problems in living and belief in the church, among Christians, as a failure to understand and act on the implication of the gospel for the challenges that they face. We do not naturally see these implications and if we are to make ongoing progress in following Christ, we must continually grasp and apply the gospel in deeper ways. Beginning January 22nd Pastor Rick will take us through Galatians and show that our spiritual problems are a result of not only failing to obey God, but also on relying on our obedience to make us fully acceptable to Christ
Wednesday Evening Bible Study:
Wednesdays at Bible Study, we are reading the book of Genesis. The book is foundational for the entirety of the Bible. As the book of beginnings, it is the head waters of all that God has made known about himself, all that he has done and all that he is doing in our world. We will approach the book of Genesis as God’s Word. We shall endeavor to interpret the book faithfully, in the light of the culture and customs of its day. We will see Jesus and attempt to find eternal principles which are as true today as they were those many years ago. We will then suggest how these eternal truths apply to us. This study will not be a marathon, continuing without end. Our purpose is to deal with Genesis on a chapter by chapter basis, keeping an understanding of the argument of the book as a primary goal.
Encountering the Bible
You have probably heard that you should read your bible and pray. If you do it every day you will grow, grow and grow. It is good advice. Many a person has taken up the bible and begun at the front only to find themselves in a desert as they get half way into the second book. If they keep going before they finish the next two books they will throw up their hands in frustration. Is there a better way?
Yes, there is! Beginning August 21st we will look at how to approach reading the bible, where to begin and not get lost, and work through an overview of the bible. A series of suggested reading plans (15 minutes a day) will be made available, which will align with what we look at each week.
If you have been lost in trying to read the bible or you have always wanted to feel comfortable reading scripture but are not, or want to be confident in reading your bible and being able to see how it fits together, then you will want to make plans to participate in this new focus for Sunday mornings.
